The coordinated electric mechanism animates the figure with a realistic planing motion as the upper body repeatedly bends forwards and returns to its original position, faithfully recreating the action of smoothing the wooden hull. The figure is dressed in traditional clothing, consisting of dark fabric trousers, a light-coloured shirt and a cloak draped over the shoulders.
